We left our Escalante campground, on a
sunny morning, with the birds singing! We've seen mostly robins so far in Utah.
It was yet another beautiful, scenic drive, with new and imposing terrain all around. Just when you think you've gotten used to the way Utah looks, it changes again!
We enjoyed a very nice lunch stop at a closed campground named Oak creek. Lucas enjoyed stretching his legs too! One of the many benefits of having a trailer...easy diaper changes, feedings & lunch stops!
In the early afternoon we arrived in Capitol Reef National Park, just east of Torrey, and got a campsite in beautiful Fruita campground on the Freemont River. Lucky us, as its a first-come-first-served campground that fills up every night.
As usual, Lucas did a picnic table inspection! He always does one as soon as he gets out of the Jeep.
I took a tour of the campground with Lucas while Rob set us up in our campsite. We wandered down the Freemont River trail and looked at some of the orchards there.
Thanks to the warm weather, we enjoyed lunch outside, with Lucas in his funky high chair attached to the picnic table.
Next up was a driving tour of Capitol Reef National Park, including the fun and scenic side road down through the Capitol Gorge. It took about 90 minutes to drive through all the main sights.
I had fun climbing on the canyon walls too! The water flow has carved out lots of easy hand and foot holds.
We all went for a pre-bedtime walk on Freemont River trail next to the campground.
Rob & I later enjoyed roasting marshmallows and sipping red wine by the fire.
