This morning we packed up camp and left the beautiful Fruita campground and Freemont River area, heading east towards Moab.
When we left, we didn't know for sure where we would be staying tonight, leaving our options open, a rare thing for us, as we are both big planners.
The scenery on the road changed again, becoming much flatter, with grey rock formations that looked like giant sandcastles to me.
We stopped in a small town named Hanksville for gas and groceries. Lucas got to have a ride on an old tractor outside the grocery store.
Along the way, we checked to see if we could get a campsite in Goblin State Park, where the rocks all look rounded and pointy like goblins, but no such luck, the campground was full.
So we continued to the town of Green River and camped in Green River State Park, a very good thing, since all the other campgrounds there just parking lots.
In the late afternoon we decided to try to check the area out and were told we could go see a geyser that erupts twice a day, named Crystal Geyser. The camp host ran out of pamphlets about it, so he sent us to the visitors centre, where I received the most pathetic excuse for a map I've ever seen!
Seriously, what grade level of education did this person complete?!?
Anyway, we did find it, and it was less than spectacular. It looked like they had attempted to tap into it to collect the hot water or something. So much for natural beauty. A bit disappointing!
While we were on our way back to town we noticed a sign for an off-road trail named "Orange," so we decided to give it a try.
It was more fun than the geyser, but as I write this post a few days after the actual events, it definitely pales in comparison to the off-roading later in the trip.
