We packed up and headed east to Escalante, Utah. It was a short drive of only about 60 miles! Lucas was happy to get out of the Jeep after such a short drive this time.
As usual, he tested out our newest picnic table and practiced his standing skills.
We walked to the post office, and a local Organic Grocery store. This tiny town of only 850 people is very friendly and quaint.
Next we splurged on lunch at the Circle D restaurant next door to our campground, and got to eat smoked beef brisket! Rob shared one of his French fries with Lucas too. Aww! I love my boys!
After lunch, and after Lucas had a nap, we went for a beautiful and somewhat steep two hour hike in Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, just west of town.
"What? There's wifi here? How exciting!" said Lucas. "Mommy can catch up on 4 days of blog writing and Daddy can book more campsites online, while I go to bed! Yay!" We were amazed by the incredible variety of colours and minerals on the petrified wood and logs we saw. It was awe inspiring to see and touch wood from millions of years ago, that was just fortunate enough to have been preserved in the sand of an ancient lake that was once here!
Lucas got out of his pack seat to check out this giant, petrified tree stump, just the right height for him to hold on to.

Watch out.... Lady and the tramp photo. Lol..
